Gong Signals used at the IRM

SIGNAL MEANING
o o Answer to any signal not otherwise provided for other than a fixed signal.
o o o When standing, back.
oooooooSeries of rings: Alarm for persons or animals on track.

Gongs are typically foot or cord operated on streetcar and other trolley equipment. They are used for signalling between the conductor and motorman as well as for public warnings. For equipment that has both gong and whistle, the whistle is used for signalling at the IRM unless otherwise prohibited.

Communicating Signals used at the IRM

SIGNAL Signals from Conductor to Operator
o When running, stop at once.
o o When standing, start. (Forward is implied.)
o o o When standing, back. When running, stop at next passenger stop.
SIGNAL Signals from Operator to Conductor
o Come to cab.
o o Watch trolley.
o o o Operator wants to back. Conductor must answer signalling to back.
o o o oCall for signals.

Passenger trains equipped with a communicating signal appliance (including street cars and trolleys) use the communicating signals indicated.
