Much of what you're about to look at is graphical in nature. You'll need a browser that can display inline JPEG images. You may find some information in the IRM pages with a text-only browser, but even these pages are heavily based on photographs and other images.
I've worked to keep any and all "pages" within a 640-pel width, so that viewers with only 640x480 screens will be able to enjoy the content without horizontal scrolling. I recommend at least 256 color support, more if you've got 'em, as the color images in JPEG are 24-bit, and display best on "true color" systems. For those of you with only 16 colors, well, you may be disappointed in what you'll see.
I have edited many of the older images, especially those in "The Roundhouse." Often, I've adjusted gamma to provide better imaging of the details on locomotives that get lost in the shadows. Not all monitors reproduce images with the same gamma. If images appear washed out, try adjusting the contrast and brightness on your display, as that may help.
I also use background specifications on a number of the pages, along with various text colors. If you find that dithering of these colors, or the rendition on your screen is making viewing difficult, tell your browser application to use its defaults, and that should take care of that.
Now take some time and browse the collection of "The Roundhouse" or learn about the Illinois Railway Musuem, or check out some of my personal experiences in "The Extra Board."
