Visitors (especially children) to the IRM often ask if they can blow the whistle on the engine. Unfortunately we must decline the request as the whistles and gongs are signaling devices, and each use has a specific meaning both to the crew of that specific train and to other train crews and switchmen/brakemen in the vicinity. Unnecessary use of such signals is disallowed.
